The term & philosophical basis for Body Weather was founded in the early 1980’s by dancer Min Tanaka and further developed by Laboratories worldwide. Frank van de Ven was a member of Tanaka’s Maijuku Performance Company in Japan, from 1983-1991. Katerina Bakatsaki and Frank van de Ven founded Body Weather Amsterdam in 1993 as a platform for training and performance.
Van de Ven has an ongoing commitment to the Body/Landscape projects he conducts worldwide and since 1995 he has led, with Milos Sejn (Academy of Art & Design, Prague, Czech Republic), the annual, interdisciplinary Bohemia Rosa Project connecting body and landscape with art, geology and architecture.
He has 30 years experience of teaching Body Weather to all levels, ranging from professional dancers to people with no prior performing experience. Institutions he has taught include : Charleroi Danses Brussels, Kramhusid Reykjavik, APDI Dublin, La Caldera Barcelona, Te Whaea National Dance and Drama Center Wellington, Musikhochschule Koln, MAP Festival Melaka Malaysia, Dancehouse Melbourne, C de la B Gent Belgium, Dansens Hus Kopenhagen, Monash University Melbourne, Ballet du Nord Roubaix, Dans I Dialog Denmark and the SNDO in Amsterdam.
